Headstones & monuments

The marker that outlasts everyone who chose it.

Monument dealers design, carve, and install headstones, flat markers, and memorial benches. You do not have to buy from the cemetery — independent monument companies are usually less expensive — but the cemetery's rules govern size, material, and installation, so get those in writing first. Lead times of six weeks to six months are normal; there is no rush, and the unveiling can be its own small gathering.

When you’ll need them

Weeks to months after the burial. Many traditions place the marker around the first anniversary.

What it typically costs

Flat grave markers typically $500–$2,000; upright headstones $2,000–$10,000 depending on stone and carving; installation and cemetery fees often add several hundred dollars.

Questions worth asking

  • What are the cemetery's exact size and material rules?
  • What's the full price including foundation, installation, and cemetery fees?
  • What's the realistic delivery and installation timeline?
  • Can we see the inscription proof before carving?
